Petauke District is situated approximately 400km east of Lusaka and 170km west of Chipata. It lies between -14.2426 latitude and 31.3253 longitude, GPS coordinates 31°19′ E and 14°14′ S and covers an area of 3,485 Km². Petauke shares district boundaries with Nyimba in the west, Lusangazi in the north, Sinda in the east and an international boundary with Mozambique in the south west. Petauke had an estimated population of 259,383 as per 2022 Census of Population and Housing. The district has 2 constituencies and 13 wards. It celebrates the Tuwimba Traditional Ceremony of the Nsenga Speaking people
